How does Myrlo compare to Character.AI?

On October 12, 2026, Character.AI started a voluntary Chapter 11 process to run a court-supervised sale, which it expects to finish by late November or early December (Character.AI's update).

If you use Character.AI and want to know what else is out there, this guide maps its features to their closest match in Myrlo and shows where the two differ.

What is Myrlo?

Myrlo is AI interactive fiction and text roleplay, on iOS and the web. It's for adults. Basic roleplay is free, and there's an optional Premium subscription for power users and creators.

Everything in Myrlo happens inside a World. Each World has its own places, lore, Characters, and Stories. You pick a World and start a Life there as the character you play. The people and Stories of that World come to you as you go. If you want a specific setup, you can start a Life straight from a Story.

That's the biggest difference from Character.AI. Myrlo is built for living inside a story. Character.AI is built around ongoing chats with individual bots.

How do Character.AI's main ideas map onto Myrlo?

Most of what you use on Character.AI has a close match in Myrlo:

The shift that matters most is where you start. On Character.AI, you usually start from one character and the chat grows around them. On Myrlo, you start from a World, and the Characters are already part of it. They have places they belong, people they know, and history with each other.

That changes how a conversation feels. You're one person in a place with other people in it, and no single bot carries the whole story. A Character you met in one Story might turn up in another, because they live in the same World.

You can start a new Life from scratch, from a Story, or even from a specific Character. If what you liked most on Character.AI was one particular character, you can still focus on one Character here. They'll just have more people around them.

How is playing different day to day?

The story is run for you. Instead of one bot answering you, Myrlo plays the Characters in the scene and keeps the story moving. A scene can have several Characters, each reacting in their own way. As your Life goes on, the AI Director can also bring in new Characters or retire old ones.

Memory belongs to your Life and its Stories. Myrlo keeps track of what's happened, who you've met, and what they think of you. That carries forward as you play. You can also run more than one Life at a time using save slots, each with its own history.

Creating is different too. Every Character or Story you make lives inside a World, next to other people's creations. Someone might start a Life from one Story and end up playing one of yours along the way. If another creator allows it, you can even add relationships between your Characters and theirs.

What doesn't map cleanly?

A few things don't carry over. Here they are up front.

• A smaller catalog. Myrlo doesn't have Character.AI's huge library of fan-made characters, and it doesn't host copyrighted characters from other franchises. What's here is original Worlds, Stories, and Characters, plus licensed adaptations and public-domain Characters.

• No voice or video. Myrlo doesn't have voice or video features right now.

• No Android app yet. It's coming soon. In the meantime, the web version works in Android browsers.

• 18+ only. Myrlo is a platform for adults, built by adults.

What would moving over look like?

You'll be rebuilding, not transferring. There's no importer from Character.AI.

1. Export your Character.AI data first if you want to keep your chats. Character.AI's help center explains how to download your data. It says exports can take 3 to 4 weeks and the download link only lasts 7 days, so start early.

2. Pick a World. Browse the Worlds and find one that fits the kind of story you like.

3. Start a Life, or start from a Story. Let the World bring Characters to you, or pick a Story with a setup you want.

4. Build something of your own, if you want. You can create your own Characters and Stories inside a World. Paste in what you made on Character.AI, and the Coach can help you shape it.

What about my data and my stories?

You own what you write on Myrlo. Myrlo's terms give Myrlo a non-exclusive license to run the service. The content is still yours. You can export any of your creations from within the app, including an export of your entire account.

Your private Lives stay private. Creators don't see your chats with their Characters, and Myrlo doesn't train AI on your stories. The model providers Myrlo uses may keep some data under their own policies.

Is Myrlo free?

Yes. Basic roleplay is free and unlimited. Premium adds more memory and context, better memory recall, the Atlas and Horizon models, more daily Fragments, and priority processing.

Do I own what I write on Myrlo?

Yes. You own your content, and Myrlo gets a non-exclusive license to run the service.

Does Myrlo train AI on my stories?

No. The model providers Myrlo uses may keep data under their own policies.

Is Myrlo on Android?

Not yet. It's coming soon, and the web version works in the meantime.
